Trinitas Regional Medical Center is offering a new Residency Program in General Psychiatry. Four positions will be offered for PGY 1, starting in July 2007. Trinitas Regional Medical Center is located in Elizabeth NJ, which is conveniently located 20 miles from New York City. The main advantage of training in Elizabeth is our patient population, which is very diverse. We treat patients of every ethnic and cultural background, as well as patients with a wide array of psychopathology. Through this diversity, trainees become expert in treating all patients.
Our comprehensive training program provides rigorous and comprehensive instruction in many disciplines, in a challenging, yet supportive, atmosphere.
Our psychiatric services are well integrated, and our training program includes instruction by faculty with extensive expertise in all fields. Our residents are challenged in many subspecialties of Psychiatry, and gain experience in many treatment modalities. Our faculty has trained in many diverse fields, such as DDMI (Developmental Disabled - Mental Illness), where residents get the opportunity to train with a Board Certified specialist, who operates the only inpatient facility of this kind in New Jersey. In addition, residents will get the chance to treat their own patients, in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and be supervised by experts in Geriatric Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Substance Abuse, Partial Hospital, Child, Consultation and Emergency Psychiatry. We also feature training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, family and group therapy, neuropsychological testing, and interviewing techniques. Trainees will gain experience as a team leader, by working with allied health professions through interdisciplinary rounds. These may include trainees from other teaching programs at Trinitas, such as social work and psychology programs.
One of the greatest strengths of our program is that all of the clinical experiences are available on site at Trinitas. Residents only need to travel outside our hospital for two months of Neurology training.
