Present and recent patients of the Trinitas Cancer Center were invited to attend an event yesterday that was designed to be entertaining and informative at the same time. Several of the attendees also brought family members, friends and loved ones.
The theme was "Paint the Cookie Pink," and during the course of the event that's just what the attendees did, using frosting and other toppings to make cookies both pink and more enjoyable. Some of the cookies were shaped in the ribbon that many people wear to support breast cancer awareness.
Dr. Michelle Cholankeril offered words of support and encouragement to those in attendance, followed by Juanita Fryar, RN, Director of Medical Oncology, and Veronica Vazquez, MHA, CN-BA Certified Patient Navigator. Other staffers involved in the event were Veronica Price, Office Manager; Rose Marese, Chief Pharmacist, Cancer Center Pharmacy; Roxanne Ruiz-Adams, LCSW, MSW Oncology Social Worker; and Lisa Paternoster, CCRA Research Manager.
Light food and refreshments were provided for our patients and their loved ones. The take home gifts were donated by the National Breast Cancer Foundation and placed in our Connie Dwyer Breast Center tote bags. The Connie Dwyer Breast Center, our newest Center of Excellence, is located in the main hospital building's Radiology Department.
"We love and support our patients and their families, and we appreciate their trust in us as we help them through their journey in the fight against cancer," says Dr. Cholankeril. "The Connie Dwyer Breast Center is an exciting and invaluable new resource for our patients, and a great tool for us to utilize in the ongoing battle against cancer. With the new breast center, we are able to educate women and have them understand the importance of screening, the national impact that a breast diagnosis has on all of us, and what innovative treatment options are available to those that carry a new diagnosis."
